We went to Green Valley the other day....I wanted to go see the turtles...people were already back where I have to go to see them. So I did not get to see if they were there. But I did see this Great Blue Heron, plus a few others over across the the lake. (If you click the above link, there is also a photo or the lake/old strip pit)

As you can tell by how often I post pictures of them-- I am very fond of them. But they are very silly looking.(except in flight).
I love herons. even though I've never seen one in real life. That neck is priceless.

I am sorry that you missed the turtles. I always love seeing them sunning themselves on branches or rocks but this is magnificent! A beautiful portrait of this gorgeous heron!
What a fantastic shot of the heron!!
It is unusual to see a heron wandering in the grass. He seems to have a round stone or something held in his beak; I have not seen these birds pick up anything but food (but then, I mostly see them fishing for lunch in the shallow water).
That's a nice picture of the Great Blue Heron. I always wondered why he was named that, as I never see much blue on him in photos from the past. But he is a grand bird for sure. : )
