Double the pleasure

This is drive-by--from a few weeks ago. I kept thinking I would get it posted for Tricia's Barn Charm meme, but just never got it done so am going to post it now. I am so thankful that we are past the snow for another season, I think. Though looking at this, I almost miss it. Almost...I said...

From the strip pits...

On a trip to the strip pits, this was probably my most prized capture. I am pretty sure this is an American Bittern....we have seen one or two out there before, but never this close. This is a cropped portion of a photo, but he probably was no more than 20 ft. from me, if even that. He flew over my vehicle and just landed right there...I could not have ask for more. Unless it was better eyes to focus with.

Granny's place

I think this is such an attractive place...
I love the color of it, love all the windows and the shutter treatment used...
but that tower is what really caught my attention. I was glancing down a side street and seen it and it was love at first sight. I was not disappointed with the building as a whole; in fact I loved everything about it. Notice those little oval windows right under the eaves...I cannot think of anything I would want to change.

Barn Charm time again

Today I am featuring a barn that leans....

and that needs a lot of TLC.
The barn really was leaning, however I am not sure if maybe a little bit of this was not me having the camera tilted.
But when I look at this hill, I think it is the barn because this hill looks like I remember it.
Again, I am not sure where this is at...and it was taken just a few weeks ago. I know it was north of here but that is about all I know. I really need to get one of those 'geo=tagger' things for my cameras.

Anyway, join me for Tricia's Barn Charm meme...

Come to Granny's

I will show you the building later, but this sign is attractive enough....if the building itself had not caught my eye, I would have loved the sign.

Presenting the Edgar Country Courthous in all its glory....

First we have a side view of it....apparently they are still working on it.
Then we have a view from the corner...I like that the entrances are on the corners. I think this maybe the only courthouse I have seen that. Please take a moment to click these photos...as with all the photos on this blog...they should enlarge.

More of the Edgar County Courthouse...

Just a couple more pictures of this place...
I think it one of the more appealing courthouses. At least if you worked here, it would be a beautiful sight that greeted you each morn.

Edgar County courthouse details

Just imagine the work that went into this place...and the talent.
Whoever planned this and whoever executed the design were true artists.
I have never been inside the place, but think one of these days I will go take a look inside. I bet the inside is as beautiful as the outside.

Edgar County courthouse

I always think this courthouse is just beaufiful...they have been working on it...it used to look like this.....then for a while it looked like this.....and now it looks like the photo above. I will be showing a few more photos of it over the next few days.

Under a Midwestern sky

I liked the sycamore trees and I liked all the calves laying there...such a peaceful, serene scene.

From along the road

I would love to be able to find this barn again, but have no idea where it is at, other than I think it is south and west of here, I think in Illinois. It was taken probably 2 or 3 years ago at least...I wish I had taken some close-up views of it. I really like the top and I like the American flag above the door.

I am linking this to Tricia's Barn Charm when it opens...please join with a barn of your own if you have one.

ETA: Pay attention to Don's comment...he found this barn and it is in Indiana, not Illinois...I really thought it was in Illinois, but apparently I was wrong. We have been in the area where this one is one time, maybe two.

from Paris....

I happened to spot this house while in Paris Saturday....

I couldn't believe my eyes when I happened to glance down this side street and seen it.

Notice the beautiful blue sky!

Strip pit sunset

The sunset was a beauty this evening....as I was driving through the strip pits.
I could not settle on just one photo version, so am showing three....
hope you like them.

The Wabash River

Every time I see this photo from 2008, I pause. It was taken in April so the weather was a bit warmer...this was taken fairly early in the morn but I don't remember just what time.

Saying good-bye to winter

We are supposed to have temps of up to 70º tomorrow...I hope that means we are looking at winter in the rear view mirror and have said our final good-byes to it. This one was taken a month of so ago on the way to Sarah's...NOT a drive by for once.

In flight....

I had to sharpen this to get it this way...but still not too terrible disappointed in it. My brother and I always say they have a face only a mother could love...

Barn Charm time!!!

First you have the side view...it looks huge in this view. And it is a fair-sized barn....
but when you see the view from the front of the barn it doesn't look like much. This is not too far from home, so maybe I can take some views of it in the different seasons.

Anyway, it is my entry for Barn Charm...if you have a barn, please link it to Tricia's Barn Charm meme...I so look forward to that meme. I love seeing all the entries. It usually opens sometime between 6 7:00p.m. CST.

Typical scene in the Midwest

This is from over in Illinois...just a typical scene from this area. I am pretty sure this was taken between Terre Haute, Indiana and Marshall, Illinois...a drive-by of course.

Everyone welcome....

This is a little church we pass on the way to Sarah's. It seems like we are either in a hurry to get there or just want to get home, so am making do with a drive-by shot. Across the road in front of the church is a graveyard...I bet there are headstones from the 1800's in it.

Tanks in a line...

Who in their right mind would want to put any part of anhydrous ammonia into their body? Nevertheless, it is used to make meth...and farmers in our area have to be careful with what they use. I have heard of one talking about actually having to hide the tanks of it that they use.

No longer a home....

This lonely little house caught our eyes when we were out a few days ago....
if I knew the addresses of some of these places, I might could find out more about them. However, there is no clue to tell me what their address would be....

For Barn Charm

Traveling down a two lane highway...yeah, highway. The kind with lines painted down the middle, we came across this barn. No place to pull off....but no traffic in sight. Roger stopped and I hopped out to take a photo. Darn, my battery is dead.

I hurry and grab my other camera and manage to get a few pics...but did not have the ability to get any real close-ups of any of the features.
Isn't this barn fantastic...it doesn't quite pull at the heartstrings like a weathered barn, but it makes me want to live in it. It is my entry for my favoritest meme in the world...Tricia's Barn Charm Meme....it opens between 6:00 and 7:00 CST....come join us. If you know someone that has barns on their blogs but haven't seen them there, encourage them to link to it. Or at least point me in their direction because I love see all types of barns.

Are you coming for me?

We passes this barn on our drive Sunday....the horse kept watching me expectantly. Seems like everywhere I see a horse, it is apparent that it is well loved.

Notice the windows with curtains and the air conditioner? I wonder if someone rooms there or is it just an office? Or maybe its something entirely different.

Remember skies like this???

I can't wait to start seeing a few skies like this...I love big banks of big puffy clouds

From 2008

I am so tired of the drab way everything looks, I think I will be going back every now and then to get photos with a little more color. This was taken in the same town as the photo in the post day before yesterday. Both were drive by shots.....

Blue heron

Not the greatest, a little grainy, but for late evening I felt lucky to get this. On my other blog, I posted other pics from the strip pits that I got last night, but forgot this one. So here it is.

Follow the creek....

I came across this and it appeals to me in so many ways....I like the way the creek curves and draws you into the photo....I like the thoughts of sunny days.

Somewhere in time....

We saw this on our way to Mackinaw City, but I don't remember if were still in Indiana or in Michigan. I tend to think in Indiana.
