The mama and the papa....

I always throw a couple cups of seeds on the ground for the squirrels and also some of the other birds prefer to eat there.  I don't know why these Cardinals were not up on the feeder...there was nothing else on them.

The house sparrow was there with them...

From Lorelei's Corner of the World...

First of all a few pics of Lorelei with a Luna moth...I think her mom found it where she works.  The place she works is at the edge of town and the woods are near her.  She is always finding something there...and if she don't find it, someone else will see something and tell her.  They know how she and Lorelei loves things like this....well, I do too.

One robin from my yard...

Almost any time I step outside, I either see and/or hear robins.  I finally got a minute to sit outside this evening and snapped a few of this one.

We raised a baby robin one summer, and I always think of him.  You can read about Cheep-cheep here.

I actually saw this one catch a worm but had put my camera down.

Mute Swans....

I think the above is the male...

And this is his little lady.  We were up near Danville, Illinois at the Heron Viewing park.  The water was really up...and the only things close enough for photos were these two swans and a pair of Canadian Geese.

The boardwalk goes out over the water forming a sort of circle.  To begin with the swans were on the outside of the east side of the circle and the geese were in the water in the enclosed part of the circle.  The top swan first chased them to the outside of the west side of the circle.  But it kept swimming right beside the boardwalk...after about five or ten minutes, it took off after them and chased them clear across the wetlands.  You should have heard the noise...partly the flapping of the wings.  Neither the swan nor the geese flew over 3 or 4 feet above the water....then there was the squawking and carrying on.  It was something to witness and hear.

Tennessee .....from a Kodak Instamatic

I did two versions of this...the photo is old.  Probably around the 1970s.  I don't have many from my growing up years.

But these photos show a part of me.  In the photo here, I was standing on hill across the road from our house.  It belonged to a neighbor.   One of my brothers and I sometimes used this hill for sledding.  It was not very steep, but it was close to home.

The barn  that is near the left side was our barn. It is gone now. That tree line that is touching it?  Do you see what I mean...it more or less dissects  the middle of the photo from left to right...that was Gap Creek.  There was a summer or two that we played in it almost every day at some point. Somedays almost all day.  It did not have any real deep spots near home.  By we, I mean my nephew and I, and sometimes the brother that is closest to me in age.

And the one below I am still in the same spot taking the photo.  I had just turned to my right.  Again part of our playground.  And both were a source of work...

We always had a few head of cattle....we just always called them 'the cows'...and each one had a name.  And I think I can still name most of them.  And we raised 4 pigs almost every year.  And I really don't remember a year we didn't but it is not something I am positive about.  We raised corn to have for feed...and we raised tobacco for a cash crop.  The big field on the right side of the road above was a hayfield for the most part...it did have a couple spots we used to raise tobacco.  And that field to the left side of the road was always used for corn.  Just so many memories just looking at these.
