it's a female (the male's red head stripe covers from beak to nape). she's a beauty!
Our birds are just starting to come back to the feeders now that we're home and I'm feeding them again.
Very pretty! We had plenty of birds at the feeders today, too, and while the grand kids were here they enjoyed watching. There's snow out there so the birds appreciate some food they can see/find. :)
I have both male and females and they are a joy to see - such a pretty bird. Mine don't come every day either and I'm pretty sure none of my neighbors have feeders.
I envy all of you who know so much about birds. What kind is this? It's so sweet.

My first thought was "that's a gal not a guy"...:-) I do love the woodpeckers of all kinds and love having them come by every day. I'm glad yours came back. I know there is one brand of suet that none of my birds will eat.
Lovely bird. They look so big hanging on the feeders specially when the Chick-a-dees are around. MB
