Singing for joy

I used to see Dickcissels all summer long at the strip mining area.  Now I seldom see them there.  Nor really even hear them.  They are such a joyous little bird.  They make me smile just to hear them.

What a wonderful picture! You were really in the right place at the right time!

It's difficult not to think they are singing for the sheer joy of being alive, though it's more probable that they are either attracting a mate or defending their territory. Even if that's true it's a better way of doing it than many of the human species employ.

Not familiar with his name. Is it in the meadow lark family?

Even without sound I can feel the joy of this little singing bird. Nice DoF.

It is disturbing when bird species you saw regularly in the past at natural areas or feeders less are rarely seen now or not at all.

A gorgeous image. This is such a pretty bird. I don't think that I have ever seen one before. He looks like he is singing his heart out. It makes me sad when you once have seen so many of a certain bird and then over time they disappear.

That is a fantastic shot. These birds are rather rare around here, but I have seen one and got some photos as well.
