had one on the farm i grew up on. pumping water into buckets for garden watering and animals was one of childhood chores. (had to be heavy enough to move the handle, however).
we did not have one but all our neighbors did and my three room school had one, it was our only source of water.
I certainly do!
When Dad bought our house we had a pump like this. I was about five at the time. We used it until he built a cistern to catch water and put running water in the house. We kept the pump for a long time after that for water use outside. It was cold drinking water though.
I remember. We had one like this,although it may have been a bit shorter, in our kitchen before we got running water. It pumped into the sink. We also had one outside, as did both of my grandmothers. I stuck my tongue to one in the winter. You know what happened don't you? ;)
Ah yes. We had one. The first house my late husband and I bought and by the way lived there for almost 40 years--raised our children and had one H* of a grand time had one in the pump house. A great memento.

Love that pump! I had one that was purchased at a flee market and was thrilled to get it. My mistake was giving it to someone to paint...it was never returned...boo hoo. Thank you for this photo!! I believe I will have to look for another!
Ah, yes. Makes you appreciate how easy it is to just turn the faucet on.
Ooooh, yes, I remember those! That's how we got water at highway rest stops. And, the potties didn't flush there! That was back before the Interstate system and we were lucky to find any kind of rest stop at all. Wow, I'm OLD!
Those things are so cool. I'd love to pump the water and stick my head under it!
A fine shot of this pump. It reminded me of the days when I lived on an undeveloped farm and our water supply was a well outside the house with a pump much like this one. In the winter we'd have to bring water out to prime the pump when we needed more water.
