I remember Mama...

Mama Squirrel that is...

She was a female squirrel that lived in our big old maple tree for years...

She had two sets of babies every year...almost always 3.  I think I remember her have 2 one year.

Wonderful story and photos about mama squirrel. I know a lot of people don't like them, but I think they are cute and I like to watch them. I do wish they wouldn't empty the bird feeders so fast, though.

What an unexpected and nifty post! You must have been an awesome observer. Do you remember how long this went on? Great squirrel closeups!

Great close-up photos. They live just outside my window too but are not so confiding.

thanks for the SMILES...she is so beautiful. i could not look at her photos without a big smile on my face. one of the favorite things the residents at the nursing home loved to do, was sit under the oaks and watch the parents with their babies.

I had a squirrel who lived in our big maple in the back yard. I called her Chippy. Everyone was amazed that she would come when I called her. I used to feed her peanut butter sandwiches. I sure miss her, but I think a few of her babies are still around, but no squirrel comes close anymore because the dogs bark them off. Now they sit on the fence in the pond fenced area and laugh at the dogs who can't get to them.

Oh Rose, I love to take pictures of the squirrels, but I'm a bit scared of them, and don't get too close. So, that last picture of you feeding mama squirrel really got to me. What a brave one you are. : ) Great photos, Rose.

Wonderful shots of the squirrel.
I'm one of those people who are not a fan of squirrels. Yes, they are cute and fun to watch but they are not so cute when they get in the attic and walls of your house!!!

I almost passed out when I saw your photos, lol. I have this deep-rooted fear of squirrels but I'm sure your mama squirrel was very sweet. I don't know if the little black nail on the finger as she's eating is heartwarming or terrifying. (:

Looks like you had her pretty tame as well.
