The photos are not so fantastic...but always love seeing the swarms of birds.
I wish I could have done a better job capturing them...and what I really wish is that I had thought to video tape them till you could have heard them when they would swarm around.
Like I said none of these are great as a stand alone photo
It is the story they tell together.
They flitted from here to there...
They would settle in the road, and then in the field and then in the grain above. It is not corn...maybe milo?

The first photo IS fantastic! The way You captured them, like they are rising up from the ground. And all the way back, with no end in sight. They look to be red-winged blackbirds.
These are great photos. I can imagine the noise they make.

An interesting exercise is to guess how many birds are on a photo like that, then to actually count them - there'll be a lot more than most people estimate. I think the pictures of the birds on the square wire grid are excellent.

WOW that's a lot of birds. It's like something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie.
If you are out at just the right time you can hear them gathering in the trees before they take off. It's pretty relaxing to watch them flying around in the gathering with seemingly no purpose. Sometimes a Murder will fly in looking for whatever they are looking for and fly off again. I often wonder if they are strangers passing through or if my resident crows join the group that is really a family reunion, lol. I never tire of watching birds.

Excellent series of photos captured here! This was quite a swarm you've spotted. I am surprised how they are able to fly like this without hitting each other. It's amazing.
where is the photo of Alfred Hitchock? he he he… I love the way you told the story, each of them shows how many there were and the closeups in the fence are beautiful because we can see what type they were.. to me the photos are amazing

You're wrong, Rose. That first photo IS FANTASTIC! That is so cool. Why are there so many birds swarming around in this one area I wonder? I love the picture of the four birds on the wire fence too.

I think your photographs are wonderful too! It's hard to imagine how many birds there might have been gathered there. A few years ago "zillions" of Robins flew over our house, obviously going somewhere, probably to feed in croplands as your birds were.
it's a great series of the birds and each image can stand alone... that is the last one would require some explaining Rose... but you get the feeling of motion....peter:)

Maybe it is a thrush, similar to the fieldfare (Turdus pilaris), as it occurs in our latitudes?
Cool series of shots of all the birds. I don't think I've ever seen that many at once. I wonder what kind they are.
These are fabulous images. I love big groups of birds. I usually see them around fields where the corn has been harvested. A wonderful series.
