First we have the Eurasion Collared Dove above....compare it to the Mourning Dove below. You can see differences.
Also, do you notice the almost iridescent colors of purple and blue on the Mourning Dove. On top of his head and neck. I suppose it was the lighting, but I have never seen that before.

I think there is a little hint of blush on the Eurasian Collared Dove as well. Both are beautiful birds.
No, it was not the lighting. We have lots of Mourning Doves, and they do have this iridescence. I love that you showed them together, so I can compare! I see the collar on the other one!
I think the doves that come to our backyard are Mourning Doves, but I will study them more closely. Either way, I love them all! Your pictures are so good!

We always have a pair hanging around in the spring and summer... Sweet, gentle sound.
I predict that you'll tire of the three-note song of the Collared Dove if they become anywhere near as numerous as they are here. It's difficult to believe that there were none in the UK when I was born and I remember my father announcing that there were "some of them foreign doves" on the farm.

I have gotten quite a few mourning doves around here and have never noticed that purple and blue before. I'll have to dig up some old pictures and see if I can spot it in any of them.

ours are mourning doves, and I have not noticed the colors on them. but will pay attention the next time I see one. they are both beautiful birds and photos
The Eurasians have invaded our state but where we live, the mourning doves do rule. I like seeing the different shining colors in their feathers.

Both of these Doves are so beautiful . The Mourning Dove has that iridescent look in the right light. Subtle but pretty.
Doves come to our feeders, but they just look gray. Your beautiful photos have inspired me to give the old binoculars a try to see if there are distinguishing colors on our visitors. Got to find my bird field guide, too.

Oh yeah, huge difference, we've only had morning doves on the porch, but a lot of them.
I have seen other types of doves on our travels but we only get the mourning doves here. I love to listen to them in the morning.
Now I need to compare to the doves at my feeder and she which they are. Nice shots.
