Not a partridge in a pear tree....

But it is a Northern Bobwhite in a tree.  It is my first time seeing one in a tree.  This was out at the strip pit area.  They were calling everywhere we went, but this was the only one we actually saw.  He was at the edge of the road headed into the grass.  I could not believe my luck when it flew up into the tree.

When I was a child, I would hear the Bobwhite calling all the time. I have not heard one in years. A beautiful capture of him in the tree.

Oooh, that was exciting! I had to look up details, as this was not a bird I am familiar with and find that it is a type of quail and therefore ground-set mostly. So, yes, for it to be in the tree for you was extra special!!! YAM xx

I have never seen one in a tree either. He's a handsome one, though!

Not a bird that we see here. There are some birds that surprise us when they take to the trees. Our Egyptian Geese do it and always look incongruous perched up there.

Not only have I never seen one but I've never heard of them either. Exciting to be able to get the photo of him.

They rarely fly, period! Incredible. And such a great picture.

Excellent close-up captured here! The speckled plumage is so eye-catching. The pear tree is spotted my way. :-)

Yes my first thought was "a bobwwhite in a tree?" He looks good there, but it is unfortunate that the light falls so brightly on the leaf right behind his white throat.
