I guess i'm surprised that he would leap up steps. These are fine close up of him.
If you had a porch light he probably thought you were providing the best place to catch bugs. We used to see one under my dad's bug zapper, catching cooked bugs before they hit the ground.
He must have wanted to have your company.
Wow that is an amazing close up.
His coloration works with his surroundings. It would also work well in the muddy puddles and ponds he usually inhabits.

He is gorgeous! These are beautiful images. I used to get a lot of toad in my yard and at night when I turned on the porch light, they were hopping around on my patio. But they seemed to have moved on. I haven't seen any in a couple of years.
