We came across this little cabin...seen at the Forest Glen preserve in Illinois. The window upstairs strikes me as an odd place.
I wish it had been open to see inside. Looking through a window is just not the same.

Looks like a wonderful family once lived in this cozy Little House.
It is really cute. and the porch furniture just fits and matches it. I agree about the window. It is like there is a room upstairs in the back, but not in the front. Maybe they ran out of money for the front window.
It reminds me of the cabin Andy's folks had at Holland Lake, MT, except it was made of logs. Andy helped build it, and they had the expertise of a fellow (from Finland I think) who had the expertise they needed. Most of the beds were on the second floor and it didn't have many windows.
A well-made little home. Presumably these cabins must have been made by people from Scandinavia or the mountainous regions of Europe; there's no tradition of such buildings in Britain. I would guess that little window is there to illuminate a stairway or ladder to the attic.

What a fabulous find! I love old buildings and this one is a beaut with the strangely placed window. You'd think it would be open if it's on public land. I'm so glad you share it.

That window at the top is in an odd spot. It would be nice to have a little log cabin like that to escape to.

maybe the window was over there to allow for a bed up gainst the wall. it is oddly placed. this is the kind of log cabin I have always wanted. it is the perfect size, no cleaning much at all

I have seen a similar cabin in the Great SMoky MOuntains. A charming place.
The cabin made me remember the TV program 'The Beverley Hillbillies' that we used to watch as children. I imagine there are a lot of memories in those walls. Great photo :)

hi Rose... i love all of the points of view that you of this square log cabin...
we live in a timber house that was built in 1999... it is a lot bigger than this one and the roof is much higher... we have two bedrooms a large bathroom and double doors that opens onto a balcony upstairs... and we love it....peter:)
